Reinhard Hüttl

Reinhard Hüttl is Scientific Director of the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam and President of acatech - the German Academy of Science and Engineering.

He received his training in forest and soil sciences at Oregon State University and Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg where he received his Ph.D. in April 1986. From 1996 to 2000 he was member of the Environmental Council of the German government. From 2001 to 2006 he was member of the Executive Committee of the German Council of Science and Humanities.

Reinhard Hüttl is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and received an honorary doctorate of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna. His research focuses on landscaping, rural spaces, and the genesis of ecosystems.
