
Prof. Dr. Klaus J. Bade is Chair of the Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration in Berlin.
Trained in History, Political Science, Social Sciences, and German Literature he was Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the Universities of Erlangen-Nürnberg (1980-82) and Osnabrück (1982-2007). He founded the interdisciplinary Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at Osnabrück University as well as the German research and consulting networks Gesellschaft für Historische Migrationsforschung (GHM) and Rat für Migration (RfM). He was Fellow at Harvard University 1976/77, at St. Antony's College / Oxford University 1985, at the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin 2000/01 and at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) 1996/97 and 2002/03.
Klaus J. Bade is member of numerous German and international scientific communities and advisory boards, and received many awards including the Philip Morris Research Prize 2002, the Justus Möser Medal of the city of Osnabrück 2005 and the Prize of the Helga und Edzard Reuter-Foundation 2006. He is author and editor of more than 40 books on colonial history, social and economic history as well as on population, migration and integration past and present.
