
Volker Kreibich was until his retirement in 2005 Professor of Spatial Planning in Developing Countries at the Faculty of Spatial Planning, University of Dortmund, and director of the international Masters programme SPRING (Spatial Planning for Regions in Growing Economies).
He received a Masters degree in Geography at the University of Colorado, USA, and a doctoral degree at the Technical University of Munich. Before joining Dortmund University in 1976 he served as an urban development planner at the Municipality of Munich.
Volker Kreibich is presently involved in research on urbanization in poverty and informal modes of urban governance with a regional focus on East Africa and South Asia.
